About the Instructor

Steve Billman is a bassist, composer, and educator with nearly five decades of professional experience. He has performed and recorded with world-class artists including Frank Gambale, Mike Stern, Billy Cobham, TakMatsumoto, Daniel Ho, and Brian Bromberg.

In 2008, Steve performed on the Grammy Award-winning album Ikena, and later recorded Electric Island, Acoustic Sea with Daniel Ho and Tak Matsumoto—leading to an extensive tour of Japan and collaborations with the legendary rock band B’z, one of the best-selling groups in Asia.

As both a performer and composer, Steve is known for his ability to blend strong foundational groove with a melodic, expressive approach to the bass. His music spans fusion, jazz, progressive rock, and world influences, with projects like Continuum and The Odd Dogs showcasing his depth as both a player and writer.

As an educator, Steve brings this real-world experience directly into his teaching—helping students develop strong fundamentals, musical awareness, and the confidence to perform in any setting.
